What happens

"WOOF WOOF!" In New Caledonia, everyone looks for a dog… and finds a fluffy grey bird with a crest: the kagu. Tall column pines line the turquoise lagoon, a gecko as long as an arm climbs a tree with sticky feet, and a nautilus floats by like a little spaceship.

• The kagu can't fly, but it barks, dances and raises a big crest.
• Leach's giant gecko is the biggest gecko in the world.
• A nautilus floats up and down by filling its shell with gas.
